The President-elect Michel Martelly may be making history sooner than many would have expected.
Martelly may perhaps have the most former Heads of State of the Republic present at his inauguration than ever before.
According to Haiti Press Network , invitations were sent to Former Presidents and Provisional Presidents, Jean-Claude Duvalier, Henri Namphy, Leslie François Manigat, Prosper Avril, Ertha Pascal Trouillot, Jean-Bertrand Aristide, Boniface Alexandre, and René Préval to attend the May 14 event.
The invitation of the former dignitaries is an olive branch by the incoming administration to acknowledge that they are in their country and that all parties should put aside their divisions towards the benefit of everyone.
Also expected to attend is the President of the Dominican Republic, Leonel Fernandez.
Fritz Jean-Louis, tasked with coordinating the inauguration, has given the guarantee that everything will be ready before May 14.
Work at the National Palace has been underway in preparation of the inauguration and it was reported a third gate was added to the property.
Stalls were erected in the courtyard of the National Palace, artists draw the portrait of the President-elect on the walls, scanners are hard at work in several streets of the capital, compatriots in the diaspora are preparing to enter the country with major parties planned, as well as prayer ceremonies in churches.
